Introduction

Welcome to my blog! This is written for my own purposes, but if it helps with local information and sightings then that will be a great bonus.

I have been birding for a long time now and have recently move to from West to East Yorkshire. I spent 10 years living in a small village called Laycock near Keighley and wrote a blog for that area (www.laycockbirder.wordpress.com). As that blog was very specific to my birding there - I have decided to set up afresh with a blog which covers my birding in general.

That said there will be a heavy weighting to my new patch. As a member of the Patchwork Challenge team, local birding is my thing, so my new patch of North Ferriby to Brough Haven will be the source of most of my updates and sightings.

I don't claim to be the best birder - too much inland and too little coast to have the experience of the rarest birds. Many trips to Spurn over the years has helped but my bird list is a little feeble compared to many. It is a hobby that I love however, and in recent times I have been getting a little more involved in the birding community and will be looking to do the same here in East Riding.

The blog will not just be restricted to birds, but also other wildlife too. I will also post some photos from time to time, but these will be largely record shots and views! I am no professional phototgrapher but a photo can brighten up a blog post sometimes.

I look forward to birding here in a different part of the UK and am optimistic for my patch year 2015.
